About the Vale of Itchen

Lodge History

The Vale of Itchen Lodge is based in Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh and was formed in 1962 by a group of senior railway workers.

The founders of the Lodge were from many parts of the South and regularly met at a house in Allbrook, in the Northern part of Eastleigh. That house overlooked the River Itchen which meanders down through the Itchen Valley and passes the railway works.

Although initially the Lodge was strictly for Railway workers, the Lodge opened its arms to welcome men from all trades and pastimes in 1988. There are still a number of members in the Lodge which derive from the close affiliation to Railways who will happily relate stories of times past.

The Vale of Itchen moved from its traditional home at Eastleigh Masonic Centre in 2022 to meeting at King’s Court which better meets the needs of its members.

Worshipful Master

The Master of the Lodge is elected once each year, and is installed by his predecessor at the following meeting. Worshipful Master is the rank given to the head of a Freemasons Lodge and is currently held by Worshipful Brother Paul. Paul’s chosen charity for this year’s donations is the Piam Brown Ward.

Immediate Past Master

The Immediate Past Master of the Lodge is the member who held the rank of Worshipful Master in the previous year. The IPM is Worshipful Brother Adrian.

Adrian’s chosen charity for his year as master was The Firefighters Charity.

Previous to the IPM, Worshipful Brother Sean served as the Master of the Lodge for 2022. Sean’s chosen charity for his year as master was the Royal National Lifeboat Institution with over £1500 being raised and donated.

Charity

Our members are encouraged to give freely to charity both within and outside of the lodge. The Master of the Lodge choses a charity to support for the year of his leadership and grants are also made from within the Lodge to worthy causes.
Previously the Vale of Itchen Lodge has donated to Second Chance Animal Rescue, the RNLI and The Royal British Legion amongst other worthy causes.
